30th June 2004: Dunbarton and Argyll win the County
Jamboree
|
| In the 3rd
and final day's matches, the morning foursomes proved to be a
disaster with play being abandoned due to flooding. The outcome after
various discussions with the SLGA and the 4 County Captains and with the
current rules in place meant that Renfrewshire
lost the foursomes 2/1 to Ayrshire
after playing 6,6 and 5 holes respectively in the 3 foursomes ties, and in
the top game, D&A came out with a
21/2 to 1/2
result in their favour after only 5,4 and 3 holes play against
Lanarkshire in their respective ties.
In the afternoon singles
Renfrewshire beat Ayrshire
4/2 and therefore won 5 1/2 to 3
1/2 to end up in 3rd place with
Ayrshire ending up in 4th place.
D&A won 4/2 in the afternoon singles
to win by 6 1/2 to 2 1/2 and
become the West Division Champions, with Lanarkshire
being the runners up.

Queen & A Young halved with A Laing & S Bishop; S Wood & E Cuthill lost

McNeil 3 up (1/2 - 2 1/2).
Singles: L Lloyd lost to Laing 6 and 5, Queen lost to Bishop 4
and 3, Wilson halved with Walker, S Wood halved with G Webster, Cuthill
lost to Connell 4 and 3, Young beat L Ruane 1 hole (2-4).
AYRSHIRE 3 1/2,
RENFREWSHIRE 5 1/2

Feggans & L Hendry beat J Jenkins & G McGinlay 1 up; C Malcolm & D Watt

Argyll but we lose again

In another exciting day's matchplay
Renfrewshire could not manage to
hold out to the good play of D & A
in the 2nd Day's play of the County
Jamboree and lost 5.5 /3.5
The 3 morning foursomes resulted in a halved match.
In the singles in the afternoon
Addi Shamash and
Donna Jackson were our 2 winners with
Lesley Robertson and
Clare-Marie Carlton both going to
the 18th hole and losing 1 down. Karen
Fitzgerald was against a very good form Curtis Cup player
Anne Laing as was Kate O'Sullivan
who had the talents of the up and coming star Kylie Walker to contend
with.

28th June 2004: Renfrewshire lose to Lanarkshire in
opening match of County Jamboree

In the opening match today
Renfrewshire lost 6/3 to
Lanarkshire.
In the morning foursomes they lost 2 matches to 1 However,
Donna Jackson and Clare-Marie Carlton
had an excellent win against Clare Queen and Alexandra Young.
In the afternoon Kate O'Sullivan and
Clare- Marie were our only 2 winners
in the singles with three out of the 4 remaining singles being tightly
contested.

A very young Renfrewshire team
managed to play well in difficult conditions at Largs Golf Club today.
They won against D & A in the morning. However, they lost to Lanarkshire
in the afternoon. |

The Scottish Schools Golf Association selection
committee have selected Renfrewshire's
Clare - Marie Carlton (Winner of the Scottish Schoolgirls -
pictured left) as one of the short leet of boys and girls
for the schools international match against
England at Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club on Monday, September 6:
GIRLS - Carly Booth (Perth & Kinross), Clare-Marie Carlton
(Renfrew), Kelly Brotherton (Edinburgh), Krystle Caithness (Fife),
Amanda Edwards (Edinburgh), Lesley Hendry (N Ayrshire), Rachael
Livingstone (E Lothian), Kelsey MacDonald (Highland), Roseanne Niven
(Edinburgh), Jane Turner (Edinburgh), Kylie Walker (Glasgow), Sally
Watson (Edinburgh).6 Girls will be selected from
the above pool of players.

14th June 2004:CLARE-MARIE WIN SCOTTISH
SCHOOLS TITLES

Clare-Marie Carlton,
(The 2003 Renfrewshire
County Champion
)
won the Royal Bank of Scotland
Scottish schoolgirls' individual championships over the Murrayshall
courses, Perth today (Monday).She had
scores of 76 and 73 for 149 to take the title
by one shot from Rachael Livingston (East Lothian) with Amanda Edwards
(Edinburgh) who was third on 151 after a card
countback with Pamela Pretswell (South Lanarkshire), also on 151.
The "big names" from Scottish girls
golf - including Kelly Brotherton, Roseanne Niven, schools title-holder
Kylie Walker, Gemma Webster and Carly Booth - all finished outside the
top three on a day of heat and high winds over courses that punished
players who missed the fairways.
Team Awards:
306 Edinburgh (K Brotherton, R Niven).
309 Glasgow. (K Walker and G Webster)
310 Renfrewshire (C-M Carlton and M Briggs)

9th June 2004: Maureen Skinner wins Medal Finals
and is overall winner in the June Medal played over Eastwood

Maureen Skinner
(Gourock) had a wonderful round in the June Medal and
Medal Finals at Eastwood today in blustery conditions.
Her Gross 75 Net 70 was 5 under the CSS of 75 for the day
(SSS 72) She was also the overall winner of the
Medal Finals.

The LGU Challange Bowls
played at Murrayfield Golf Club today was
abandoned when torrential rain flooded the
greens. Only 2 competitors managed to complete the course.
Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle) had a gross 70 net 67 to be
6 under the SSS of 73 and has now cut her handicap to 1.9 Although she
was disappointed the competition was abandoned and 3 putting the last
green (18th green pictured to the left ) she was delighted with her
score. She went out in 1 under par and returned in 2 under par. This
event has been rearranged for Wednesday 22nd September |

SHAMASH WINS OVER HOME COURSE
Addi Shamash (Bonnyton)
playing over her home course at
Kirkcudbright, won the
South of Scotland women's amateur championship for the second time in
three years on (Saturday.
Addi had rounds of 78 and 77 for a total of 155 for a narrow, one-stroke
win from Christine Meldrum (Stranraer) and Sheila McMurtrie (Dalbeattie).
Donna Jackson (Cochrane
Castle) who was also playing on Saturday had a gross 70 round
Windyhill in their Open Day -- to equal the Course Record held by
Janice Moodie and Sara Bishop
