and Lanarkshire win the Inter County Jamboree

In today's matches against
D&A the RLCGA
Team were outstanding.
Highlight of the morning was that
Donna and Gillian were 4 down after 8 and finally managed to
win on the 18th hole.
In the afternoon singles Clare Marie and
Gillian Kyle both had wonderful victories against the odds
and this year with a great team spirit we had the best
result for a long time
The Renfrewshire youngsters
Megan Briggs and
Clare-Marie Carlton were outstanding
over the three days. Megan took 5
1/2points out of
six while Clare -
Marie gained 5 points
from six.

Lanarkshire
therefore win the West Division
women's Inter-County
Team Championship
They now go forward to the Scottish county finals at
Ranfurly Castle from September 16
to 18 but, unless the dates are changed,
Lanarkshire will be without the services of their two
international players, Clare Queen and Jenna
Wilson, at least for the first day of the county finals.

and Lanarkshire are now favourites to win Inter-County Championship

Renfrewshire) and Julie Wilson (Williamwood)
played in both sessions of play against
Ayrshire today
They teamed up to get a square game against
Ayrshire's Lesley Hendry and Liz Keohone in the foursomes.
Then Julie lost by 3 and 2 to
Lesley Williamson but
Gillian beat
Liz Keohone 3 and 2.
Renfrewshire, who led by 2 points
after the foursomes, got 3 more wins in the
afternoon singles from
Donna Jackson, who beat Ayrshire
champion Lesley Hendry 2 and 1, young
Megan Briggs and Kate O'Sullivan.
LANARKSHIRE beat title-holders
Dunbartonshire & Argyll 5 ˝-3 ˝
to be the only team with two wins out of two going into today's
final programme of the West Division women's inter-county team
championship at Lanark Golf Club.

Lanarkshire in the West Division Inter County Finals opening day at Lanark

The 2005 RLCGA County Team

In an exciting opening day of the
Inter County Jamboree at Lanark Golf Club,
Renfrewshire were beaten 5 - 4
by Lanarkshire. The morning
foursomes ended up in a draw with 1˝
- 1˝ .
Ruth Rankin was the
outstanding player in Lanarkshire's 5-4 win.
Ruth hit a driver off the fairway at the 15th to within a foot of the
hole in the morning foursomes - which were shared - and then was
three under par in beating Gillian McGinlay
by 7 and 6.Jenna Wilson, first reserve for the Vagliano
Trophy team, was two under par for the inward holes in winning by
a 3 and 2 over US college student
Kate O'Sullivan.
Megan Briggs
was five up after eight holes against
Alexandra Young who then proceeded to win five holes in a row
to square the match. Young Megan kept her nerve and won the 14th and
18th to finish two up.
Clare-Marie Carlton won the final
singles for Renfrewshire by beating Susan Woods
by 6 and 5. Clare-Marie, drove the green at the 250yd fifth.
Donna Jackson, 10 times Renfrewshire
champion, halved her match with Elaine Cuthill
after being two down at the 16th.
The singles ended
up with Lanarkshire winning
3˝ - 2˝

(West Division Inter County Matches) at Lanark
Golf Club on Monday 27th June to Wednesday 29th June 2005.
The caddy posts have all been taken- my thanks to all
those that have
volunteered - it is greatly appreciated by the Team.
I hope that most members will come to Lanark
and bring friends to watch,
support and encourage OUR players.
Although it is quite a journey I hope you
would think of it as a pleasant outing and a great 'AWAY DAY' where I
know
you will see some great players including some of the top Scottish if
not
British players around.

7th June 2005: Gillian McGinlay is the star
performer at the County Medal at Greenock
|
Gillian
McGinlay had a terrific round today in the June Medal
played over Greenock Golf Course.
Her Gross 73, net 67 was the best of the day.
Gillian was out in 38 -- one over
par and back in 35 also one over par --- Well done Gillian --- Her
playing partners Carol Whyte (Windyhill)
and Dorothy Yates (Cowglen)
said she was awesome !!!!!
Maureen Cook (Lochwinnoch) won the
the 13 and upwards handicap award with a net 72 despite having a
quadruple bogey 7 at the Par 3 -- 197 yard 7th hole. With the
19.8 adjustment rule this is converted to a 5 at that hole and for
handicap purposes Maureen is now 1 under the css of 71 and has cut her
handicap. -- Well done Maureen
The Medal also incorporated the Medal Finals and
Carol Fell (Ranfurly Castle) off a
handicap of 11 had a net 71

2nd of June 2005: So far you would hardly call it
"Flaming June" !

It is the
2nd of June and it is supposed to be summer !!! The West
Vets match against Midlands Vets at
Falkirk Tryst was cancelled today since the course was
closed. Numerous other competitions and medals thro'out the West of
Scotland are postponed ---- Why not click on the Sunshine that we
should have and see what it is really like ----- Please give it
time to load
Last Wednesday was one of these days in the
Inter County Foursomes Finals at
Old Ranfurly.
Meantime I am off to Edinburgh for the weekend so no news until
the County Medal at Greenock on Tuesday. Lets hope the sun shines !! |

1st June 2005: Pro Exhibition Match at Ranfurly
Castle

On Monday (30th May) was the
Ranfurly Castle's Centenary Course Pro
Exhibition Game
It was such a good match I have put some
photos of the day that I have taken with a few also taken by David Cunningham (PAST
CAPTAIN) of Ranfurly Castle.

The match was between Tartan Tour Professionals
Scott Henderson and Jason
McCreadie against Ranfurly Pro Tom
Eckford and Club Champion Ian
Colquhoun. It was a terrific game with the visiting pros
winning the match. The visiting pros were out in 32 and Tom and Ian 34.
The inward half the visitors were back in 31 and Tom and Ian also 31
The best ball out of the 4 was 13 under par . A feast for all to see
