24th March 2005 (Thursday): East Renfrewshire duo
win the Winter Foursomes Final
|
The Winter
Foursomes Final was played at Haggs Castle
yesterday between Penny Baglin (7) and Audrey
Barclay (17) from East Renfrewshire
against Sheila Shaw (14) and Maureen Cook (13)
from Lochwinnoch.
The East Renfrewshire pairing got off to a great start by having 3
consecutive pars to go 2 up. They then lost the long par 4th and
halved the next 2 holes. A par at the par 3 7th followed by
another par at the the 8th when Audrey chipped to 6 inches won them
these 2 holes.

and the link below to see more
With heavily sanded greens making putting difficult at times both sides
3 putted the 9th to halve the hole and Penny
and Audrey were 3 up at the turn.
They then won the 10th when the
Lochwinnoch pair 3 putted the 10th.
With Sheila and Maureen being now
4 down they then started to fight back by winning the 11th and 14th
with pars to go back to 2 down. The 15th was halved in par and
with the Lochwinnoch partnership looking perhaps to get another one back
at the 339 yard 16th, the East
Renfrewshire Ladies Captain Penny holed a magnificent long
putt to par the hole and win the match 3 and 2
WELL DONE TO ALL OF YOU
FOR A VERY GOOD GAME |

21st March 2005(Monday): Spanish Seniors
Photographs and your Webmaster returns from Portugal and Kate O'Sullivan
does well again
|
Hi everyone --
Have just returned from Portugal after a
great holiday with Helen Faulds our
guest speaker at the County Dinner and both of our husbands.
We had 4 rounds of golf, 2 of which were competitions. Our highlight was
a 4 under par 68 net 59.5 in
the Texas Scramble in which we were 2nd
last --- We decided the high handicaps of the rest of
the field made it rather difficult to compete against !! |
 |
It was won with a
52.5 net !! However, we were pleased with our efforts.
We also bumped into Curtis Cup
player Anne Laing (D & A) with the
GB and Ireland Training squad at the
Millenium Golf Course. (Click on the
picture on the RHS to see an enlargement)

Kate finishes in the Top Ten
Second year Highpoint student Kate O'Sullivan
(RLCGA) climbed up the leaderboard
to take a share of 9th place in the Shamrock Inter-Collegiate tournament
at Tega Cay, South Caroline on Sunday. Her
third round par score of 72 gave her a total of 237 and she led
Highpoint to fifth place in the team totals.
The tournament was won by Morgan Olds (Elon University) on 224.
Elon won the team tournament by three shots
from North Carolina - Greensboro.
Many Congratulations Kate |

The County Dinner
took place last night (Wednesday 9th March) at Williamwood Golf Club
and was attended by 93 Renfrewshire County Members
The guest speaker was Helen Faulds from
D & A County who entertained us with a multitude of terrific
jokes of which I think Jennifer Mack, Elspeth
Hanlon, Fiona Roger and Carol Fell were the prime targets. |
 |
We all had a fantastic meal and
Captain Aileen told many stories and quizzed us all on our
knowledge on who in the last 50 Years from Renfrewshire had gained a
full Scottish cap. Think about it and see if you can come up with the
correct answer --- You never know I might donate a golf ball if you are
correct

Top Table that includes Trudy the Lady Captain of
Williamwood with Captain Aileen, Vice Captain Beth, Honorary
President Wendy, Renfrewshire PGA Coach Karyn and

7th March 2005 (Monday): News from the Spanish
Seniors from Fiona Roger
|
| Interested to see the photo of the lunch
you had on 5th March. Magic!! Didn't
realise Margot Mclean
is current captain of Eastwood Golf
Club. Her daughter Barbara was in Alison's year at
school. Sorry haven't got many photos to give
you from Spain. Found it difficult to get photos
while trying to concentrate on serious golf and
to get everyone at the same place at the same time!!
I have put some photos on on a disc and I
thought I would send them to you. Some are o.k. others are pretty poor.
Someone took some out of the car window while
I was driving !! They didn't make a very good
job of them. |
It doesn't seem to have reached anybody's web site that
Anna Telfer (D & A County Captain)
had a hole in one!! I can't
remember the club she used, but it was the 14th hole and the distance
was 105 meters. An island hole - water in
front of the green and water immediately
behind the hole - not an easy hole.
This is the Trophy they presented her with --- click
to see an enlargement.
The Scotland/Ireland/Canadian contingent did extremely well as a
group. It was brilliant that Noreen Fenton came 2nd in the
individual on 150, only one off the pace. The
regulars seemed puzzled by this new face they had never seen or heard of
before taking second prize. Brilliant! |
 |
| A good week was had by all. Weather
was bright and sunny but cold. Last couple of days much warmer. Hasn't
rained since last September - guess what? we
had a battering one day - fortunately it was short lived. |
