27th October 2005: Elspeth and Kay tell their tale
in the Daily Mail Foursomes Final
|
Elspeth
Buick and Kay Murray Whitecraigs won through to the final of
the Daily Mail Foursomes at the Old Course ,
Marriott St Pierre Hotel and Country Club on the 17th - 18th October
and were accompanied by their husbands Sandy and Harry and fellow
Whitecraigs and RLCGA members
Sandra Gilchrist and Gay Braid to
the tournament.
Interestingly, about 1800 Ladies Clubs from the UK and Ireland had
entered this competition.
The practice round was played in perfect weather on a course that was
both parkland and moorland with water features creating interesting
holes.
Unfortunately come Monday we were knocked out by the eventual winners
Cowdray Park who were off 1 and 6 and
definitely had age on their side being 17 and 32 !!
Sadly too, we didn't bring home any champagne from the two following
competitions on the Northern Course which was not such an interesting
course.
Everyone was very friendly and the Daily Mail looked after us
exceptionally well.
As we have won this years summer foursomes we hope again to be forwaed
by the club and try to qualify again for the 2006 final which will be at
Dalmahoy. However, although it has had a very expensive
upgrading it won't have quite the same appeal.
Sincerest thanks to the many friends and family who supported us -- we
did appreciate it and although it was all a great experience we were
only sorry we didn't do better.

Elspeth and Kay's PoemMany thanks
to you both for your interesting tale and congratulations to both and

Team winning the 3 Division |

22nd October 2005: KATE O’SULLIVAN
(Cochrane Castle) - Runs into strong opposition
|
Kate O’Sullivan
(RLCGA) was the leading
High Point University, North Carolina team member in the three-round
Stanford Intercollegiate women’s golf tournament over the
Stanford University par-71 golf course at Palo
Alto, California on Sunday.
Both Tiger Woods and Mhairi Mackay were students at
Stanford University.
Kate, who tied for 65th place in the
field of 102, scored 77, 77 and 76 for a 17-over-par total of 230 in
possibly the strongest college field she has played against since she
went to the States.
High Point team-mates Jenna Kinnear from Belfast and Ann-Marie
Dalton from Carlow finished 97th and 98th respectively with totals of
251 and 252.
American Curtis Cup player Liz Janangelo won the individual title by the
runaway margin of seven strokes from Duke University team-mates Anna
Grzebien and Amanda Blumenhirst.
Liz scored 70, 67 and 65 for an 11-under-par total of 202. Anna scored
71, 71 and 67, while Amanda recorded 70, 71 and 68.
Not surprisingly, Duke (834) won the team title by a landslide margin.
UCLA were runners-up on 861. High Point, rather out of their depth at
this high level, were last of 19 on 963. |

Apparently there is a 1 in 60,000
chance of getting one

14th October 2005: Your Webmaster is broke!!
|
Your
Webmaster regrets to inform you all, she has suffered a
severe financial setback.
A lucky Hole in One at the 17th
at Douglas Park in today's Medal
cost her a few bottles of wine.
As she is off to Madeira next month
compensation in the form of Euros would be gratefully received !!!
Has no one else got some news or do you think I
should give up this website business ??
Anyway your fixtures
are available for 2006 so click on the link on the LHS |

12th October 2005 : Whitecraigs celebrate winning
the 3rd Division of the Greenlees Trophy in their Centenary Year and Good
Luck to Elspeth and Kay
|
Morag
Little (Whitecraigs) current Greenlees
secretary thought it would be nice to have a
dinner where everyone who had ever played in the Greenlees team
could come along. So they had 51 out of a
possible 70 at the dinner. Jess MacKenzie
who had played in 1953 and is the oldest surviving
Greenlees secretary (at
their club) was one of the speakers and
Eileen Gibb, who has been a team member and Greenlees
secretary twice. Jess
recounted tales of matches of a different era which were funny and
Eileen told tales of some of her
matches which as you can imagine were also humorous!
There were quite a few of the "old brigade" there - all team
members at about the same as Jess.
All in all, I've been told it was a very good night and everyone enjoyed
themselves.
