STABLEFORD POINT
ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURE (CLAUSE 19.8)
This alternative procedure, CLAUSE 19.8, for short, has been
introduced to REDUCE THE IMPACT OF EXTREMELY
BAD SCORES ON A HOLE which are not truly representative of a
player’s golf ability.
PLEASE NOTE:
 | It is ONLY used in STROKE PLAY
QUALIFYING COMPETITIONS. |
 | It is ONLY used for HANDICAP ADJUSTMENT. |
By using CLAUSE 19.8 it is possible to apply the principles of a
STABLEFORD CALCULATION to a STROKE PLAY COMPETITION WITHOUT HAVING TO
CALCULATE THE POINTS AT EACH HOLE.
All holes completed
 | ONLY holes with a score in excess of NETT DOUBLE BOGEY are adjusted
to a NETT DOUBLE BOGEY. |
Holes with no score recorded
 | A gross score that would result in a NETT DOUBLE BOGEY is entered at
holes where no score is recorded |
Remembering that the highest score at each hole when applying Clause
19.8
is a NETT DOUBLE BOGEY
NO lady can have MORE than a 9 at any hole.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 | If you have no strokes allocated at a
hole you cannot have MORE than
a 5 at a par 3, 6 at a par 4, 7 at a par 5. |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 | If you have 1 stroke allocated at a hole
you cannot have MORE than a 6
at a par 3, 7 at a par 4, 8 at a par 5. |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 | If you have 2 strokes allocated at a
hole you cannot have MORE than a 7
at a par 3, 8 at a par 4, 9 at a par 5. |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To make a Clause 19.8 adjustment
yourself you need to know the following:
 | CSS (If not known assume the CSS is the same as the SSS)
|
 | Your Gross Score |
 | Par at each hole |
 | Stroke Index |
 | Your Exact Handicap (If not known
subtract 0.5 from your playing handicap) |
PLEASE NOTE:
 | Having made the calculation you can REDUCE
your handicap yourself. |
You CANNOT INCREASE your handicap yourself. This can ONLY be done
at the Home Club.
 | April Medal at Ralston (12th April 2005) |
 | Players with Stableford Adjustments |
 | Gillian McGinlay
(only player affected in this round - she has cut her handicap)
--- Since the SSS 71 CSS 74 Reduction only |
ESS = Equivalent Stableford Score
SA = Stableford Adjustment
The main column is the last column which tells you
how many over or under the css your adj net score is. Whatever your
Gross Score is in the competition the adjusted Gross score that your
handicap secretary requires you to submit subtract the SA figure from
your Gross score and you will have your Adjusted Gross Score. Gillian
had a gross 80 (Handicap 6) and she had one bad hole so she
subtracted the SA of 1 and she had an adjusted gross score of
79 -- and and adjusted net diff of -1 (one under the css)
