5th October 2005:Friendly Match against Ayrshire

Renfrewshire Juniors v Ayrshire Juniors

The Renfrewshire Girls' "B" team had a close match on Sunday 3rd October against the Ayrshire Girls "B" team at Cathcart Castle Golf Club. None of the players had played the course before and all found the hills tiring and were amazed at the number of burns! On both sides there were several girls who had not played a match before so the afternoon was a very good learning experience for many. Renfrewshire's handicaps ranged from 24 to 36 and Ayrshire's from 16 to 33, so getting full stokes helped keep the match a close one!

There were some close matches but Ayrshire won overall 41/2 to 31/2.

Results (Renfrewshire names first)

Lesley Cosh lost to Linzi Allan 3 and 2
Nicky Wilson lost to Gillian Arnott 2 holes

1st September 2005: Report from Gillian Kyle on the Junior Championship

The Renfrewshire Girls' Championship was played at East Renfrewshire Golf Club on Sunday 28th August in horrendous conditions.
In the morning, Megan Briggs and Catherine Conejo-Watt played and scored amazing well considering the gale force winds with Megan's experience showing through winning 5 and 4.
Lauren Mackin and Eilidh Briggs coped brilliantly as well- hardly ever even looking for a ball. Eilidh chose the wrong club a couple of times giving Lauren the chance to take the tie 4 and 3.
After a short rest, we ventured out again. The rain began but at least the girls had caddies in the afternoon (- with Eilidh caddying for her sister and Catherine for her school-chum)
It was a very close match with both girls finding the conditions very difficult indeed, especially the putting. Megan won on the 16th green.
The standard of all the girls' golf is very encouraging for the future.

Semi Final Final Winner
Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm)
Catherine Conejo (Williamwood)
Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm) 5/4
Lauren Mackin (Ranfurly Castle) 4/3
Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm) 3/2

23rd August 2005: Lauren Mackin wins the Challange Cup at the County Golf Meeting at Cardross

Lauren who started the season with a handicap of 18 has now reduced her handicap to 13. The SSS 75 CSS 76 meant that Lauren was 6 under on the day.

The following girls have attended Mearns Castle Golf Academy for 3 lessons with Karyn Burns. We have met on Sunday mornings and have covered long and short game techniques.

Lucy Bannerman – Eastwood, Eilidh Briggs – Kilmacolm ,
Catherine Conejo-Watt – Williamwood, Emma Crichton – Kilmacolm

We have a special coaching day with Karyn Dallas (SLGA coach) on Sunday 24th April concentrating on the short game. The above girls, together with the 18 to 21 year old girls, have been invited to this 3 hour session.

I have also managed to organise 2 coaching sessions , again with Karyn, for some of our younger girls with no handicaps but who have done well in our Stableford competition at Whitecraigs. Ages ranged from 10 to 15 years and there seems a lot of promise out there for the future.

This squad included –

Caroline Carslaw - Caldwell, Heather Conejo-Watt – Williamwood
Jane Dickson – Fereneze , Ailsa Doak – Whitecraigs
Heather Kyle – East Renfrewshire , Victoria MacIver – East Renfrewshire

The Junior Convenors met in March and this was an excellent evening discussing all our Junior experiences and hopes for our Sections. Child Protection is a massive area to get organised this year but as a County we seem to be getting on top of it and only 3 days ago our own policy was accepted by the SGU. Now we can officially appoint a Child Protection Officer then get all the disclosures done.

The Convenors have decided to meet at the end of the season as well this year to assess our efforts! This meeting will take place on Wednesday 2nd November at 7.30pm, probably at Haggs Castle Golf Club.
